Today, the world celebrates the 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day. The theme of the 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day is “Your right, your role: Say no to corruption”. Though, stakeholders should know their rights and roles to be empowered in Saying No to Corruption.
The 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day stresses all stakeholders’ rights and duties in combating corruption. Everyone has a role to play in the battle against corruption, including states, government officials, civil workers, law enforcement personnel, media representatives, the private sector, civil society, academics, the general public, and youth.
Stakeholders should be engaged to achieve material and sustainable results in combatting corruption. Policies, processes, and measures must be in place for people to be able to speak up and say no to corruption. “The United Nations Convention against Corruption emphasizes the responsibility of Governments to put in place effective whistle-blower protection to ensure that persons who speak up are protected from retaliation. These measures contribute to effective, accountable and transparent institutions towards a culture of integrity and fairness.” 1
The American Anti-Corruption Institute (AACI) devotes all of its professional, educational, and research efforts to empowering stakeholders to play meaningful roles in the fight against corruption, no matter where they are. The AACI believes that commitment to fight corruption starts by adopting the Ten Principles of Fighting Corruption promulgated by The AACI.
