Every year, on December 9th, most countries of the world celebrate the International Anti-Corruption Day. We at The American Anti-Corruption Institute commemorate this day to emphasize that the fight against corruption has been and remains a matter of social, economic, and national security. We want to remind all citizens, societies, and corruption fighters in all countries of the world that corruption threatens us all more than ever before. On this occasion, we would like to emphasize the following:
- The government bears full responsibility for fighting corruption in all economic sectors.
- The government must provide citizens and civil society institutions with the necessary information transparently to enable them to monitor government performance.
- The pillars of anti-corruption are as follows:
- An effective and independent judiciary
- The rule of law
- Effective Governance
- Effective Internal control systems
- A sound and deterrent system of laws
- Patriotic citizenship
The fight against corruption, money laundering, and financing terrorism has become a priority for decision-making countries in the world. We believe that it is time to blatantly and explicitly question the states that sponsor corruption. It is not acceptable any longer to provide international aid and loans to countries whose political system is corrupt. Also, it is no longer acceptable not to hold accountable countries that do not implement the United Nations Conventions Against Corruption.
We call on the United Nations and the international community to increase investment in spreading awareness about fighting corruption and punishing corrupt politicians in a deterrent and effective manner. We also call upon all states to take the necessary legal amendments so that corruption does not have a statute of limitations.
Corruption does not have a religion. The culprit is the enemy of its homeland and humanity. We call on all countries not to provide any immunity to corruption.
Worthwhile Anti-Corruption Day.
